About KHAR
Khar is a Western suburb of Mumbai situated between Bandra and Santa Cruz on the Western Highway. The word Khar comes from the Marathi word khara which means salty and earlier, this area was nothing but a marshland of salty sea water. While East is lesser developed, West on the other hand is one of the most posh and high rated areas of Mumbai and is home to many industrialists and Bollywood celebrities. A fishermen folk area called Dhanda is also situated in Khar.
Khar also has its own railway station on the western line that goes by the same name and it also located close to areas such as Bandra East, Bandra West, Bandra- Sea Link, Bandra- Complex (BKC), Santacruz East, Santacruz West and Vile Parle East. Originally a village of fishermen, Khar today is a rapidly developing area which has become one of the plushest areas to reside in Mumbai. When compared to Andheri and Bandra, Khar is more peaceful, less crowded and greener.
The Road connects every prominent junction of Mumbai. It connects Khar to Pali Hill, Juhu and Santa Cruz. Andheri is at a distance of 6 kilometres from Khar while the International Airport is 10 kilometres away. The Western Highway, a major 8-10 lane arterial road almost 25.33-kilometre long connects Khar with other prominent suburbs of Bandra, Juhu, Vile Parle, Goregaon, Kandivali, Malad, Dahisar and Borivali. It further links with NH 8 that connects Mumbai and Delhi and has played an important part in reducing the congestion on SV Road.Khar boasts of some of the most well-known schools like Laxmi Narayan Marathi High School, Gujarat search Society Jasudben M.L School, G. A. Kulkarni High School and High School. Hospitals in this locality are Zen Eye Centre, Beams search Co P Ltd, Pearl Biotech, Hospital and Kaumoni Hospital.
